National Vet Tech Week

Oct 21 • 2 minute read

This week is National Veterinary Technician Week and we wanted to share our endless appreciation for them and all their hard work. Our vet techs are integral players on the veterinary healthcare team. They are on the frontlines, compassionately working with clients whose beloved animals need care. They work tirelessly during exams, labs, and surgery, putting to work their vast technical and scientific knowledge treating and caring for animals. Their broad skills – both professional and personal – allow veterinarians to work more efficiently and effectively. Get to know some of our techs below!

q: what inspired you to become a vet tech?

“Being able to help those that are voiceless, plus I’ve always loved animals!”

“There is the expected, "I love animals", but it was always so much more than that. I became a vet tech because that's all I ever wanted to do. To be a friendly face in a sometimes scary place. To be a voice when they need help. To be a comfort when they are hurting. To be a safe place when they are at their most vulnerable. To help be the bridge between Veterinary care and pet owners. But also because every once in a while, I get to play with ALL the puppies and kittens!”

“Ever since I was a little girl I loved animals, I grew up with farm animals and once I was “old” enough (4), I would help my dad with the piglets at the hog farm he worked for. Goats are my favorite and I loved going to see the kids run around. At 8 years old, I had to help a struggling Doe give birth. It was such an amazing experience, the goat was legit nibbling on my fingers when I tried to go around it’s face. I’ve been around animals all my life and when they would get sick I would see the vet come and help them out. I loved how the vet helped them feel better so I decided to work in the veterinary field and become a technician.”

“My love and passion for animal care inspired me to be a vet tech. The anatomy of animals is truly unique.”

“My fur babies”

Jane Pena: “A passion to play with lots of kitten and puppies but be able to return them to their families. The desire to help care for sick or injured animals and the satisfaction of seeing them recover. The underlying need to continue to expand my knowledge base and help my peers expand their own in the process.”
