The Mental Health Crisis In Vet Med Is Real.

May 13 • 2 minute read

While we understand this is a very heavy, sensitive and triggering topic, we feel it’s imperative to shed light on the current crisis in the veterinary field, especially during Mental Health Awareness Month.

1 in 6 veterinarians have contemplated taking their own life.
Female veterinarians are 3.5 times as likely, and male veterinarians are 2.1 times as likely to die from suicide compared to the general population.

But why is this the case?

Vets enter the field eager to save animals’ lives. But they are also called upon daily to euthanize pets, have an overwhelming amount of student debt, and are often subject to verbal abuse and unfair criticism from clients, resulting in increased depression and the likelihood of taking their own life.

So we are doing something about it.

We will be donating $5 for every appointment we see from 5/16 - 5/22 to the Houston chapter of Not One More Vet (NOMV), a national non-profit that is on a mission to save veterinary professionals' lives by providing education, resources and support.
