National Cat Day

It’s International Cat Day!

Aug 8 • 3 minute read

At Rockin' Pets, Rollin' Vets, we think cats are pretty paw-some. And it's the purr-fect time to show our feline friends some love because August 8th is officially International Cat Day!

International Cat Day was founded in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare with the goal of raising awareness about the many ways to help and protect our feline friends. And the best way you can celebrate is to save a life! So if you can....ADOPT....don't shop. Estimates reveal that there are approximately 4 million cats entering shelters every year with 1-2 million being euthanized. Often cats are overlooked, but cats lower blood pressure, offer unconditional love and companionship, tons of laughs and alert their owner to danger. Many cats have even been named heroes!

How can you join in on the celebration of our favorite feline friends? Here are a few ideas that we think are the cat’s meow.

1. Adopt a cat from your local shelter or rescue organization. Need help finding your new furiend? Check out Friends for Life or Animal Justice League

2. Donate blankets, food and toys to a local shelter.

3. Volunteer at your local shelter and offer to play with some cats available for adoption, clean cages and litter boxes or anything else they need help with.

4. Buy your cat a fun new toy....condo, bed or treats!

5. Spoil your cat with some homemade tuna cookies! Check out the recipe here.

6. Hire a professional pet photographer for a fun photo shoot. We’re pretty partial to Houstonian Robyn Arouty (that’s her work to the right).

7. Brush your cat to eliminate excess fur and hairballs.

8. Write your local Congressman and ask that he/she support the ban of kitty mills.

9. Is your cat microchipped? If not, we can help! You can also buy your cat a collar and tag with your name and number, just in case they get outside and happen to become lost.

10. Make sure your fave feline is as healthy as can be. Schedule your wellness exam with us - we’ll do it all at your home!
