Mar 23 • 2 minute read

If you live in Austin and have a dog, chances are you love taking your furiend outside to enjoy all the beautiful areas the capitol city has to offer. We’ve narrowed down a list of our favorite dog parks, though it’s hard to pick only five!

  1. shoal creek greenbelt

Shoal Creek is a 76-acre beauty and you can take your dog across the entire park if he’s on-leash. If your doggoe craves a bit more freedom, there’s a designated off-leash area. Super convenient location just off N. Lamar!

  2. vic mathias auditorium shores

Does your dog like swimming? This is the place! Vic Mathias Auditiorium Shores (formerly Town Lake Metropolitan Park) has a large off-leash area for dogs to roam and play, but there’s also an on-leash section if that’s your preference. Lots of swimming areas for splashing, but be aware that the park isn’t fully fenced in.

  3. mueller lake park

Mueller Lake Park is a whopping 30-acres in the heart of the Mueller area, and is located adjacent to the Mueller Visitor’s Center. Note, dogs are only allowed on-leash here and there are 5 miles of trails to explore. Be sure to check out the rotating food trucks, farmer’s markets and concerts!

  4. emma long metropolitan park

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and Emma Long park is no exception. If it’s space you and your dog are looking for, look no further! Emma Long is 1,200 acres, with 193 acres dedicated to off-leash dogs. If you want to make a night of it, you can camp overnight with your furry friend! Just be sure to reserve your campsite in advance.

  5. red bud isle

Red Bud is a hidden gem in west Austin, and is absolutely gorgeous. It’s smaller than some, clocking in at 13-acres, but this off-leash park is surrounded by water on three sides so the views are beautiful. Parking can be hard to come by, so get there early in the day to get a spot.

Did we leave your favorite dog park off the list? Tell us about it here and we’ll add it!
