Protect Those Paws! 5 Ways To Keep Your Pet’s Feet Safe In The Summer Heat.

Jun 16 • 2 minute read

With the scorching Texas summer in full swing (if we hear the term “record-breaking heat” again, we are going to scream), it's time to talk about protecting our furry friends' paws. Just like we slip on flip-flops to avoid the hot pavement, our four-legged pals need some extra TLC when it comes to their feet. As the old saying goes, “If you can’t walk around barefoot without burning your feet, neither can your pet!” So, let's dive into some ways to keep their paws cool and comfortable during this record-breaking (sorry) heat.

Paw Patrol

Imagine going barefoot on the pavement. You wouldn’t do it, would you? To ensure your pet's paws don't suffer from burns, use the good ol' hand test. Place your hand on the pavement for a few seconds. If it feels too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet! Opt for early morning or late evening strolls when the ground is cooler, or stick to grassy areas and shaded paths.

Cooling Mats

When it's hotter than heck outside, why not create an oasis for your pet? Whip up a DIY cooling mat by freezing a towel or using a cooling gel pad. Your pet will thank you for the cool spot to relax and beat the heat. And if you want to take it up a notch, consider filling a mini kiddie pool with water and ice for them to splash around in.

Pedicures

During the summer, long nails can cause discomfort for pets, making it harder for them to walk properly. Help your furiend stay light on their feet by regularly trimming their nails. And who doesn’t love a good spa day?

Moisturize

Just like our skin can get dry and cracked in the heat, so can our pet's paw pads. Give their paws some extra pampering by applying a pet-safe moisturizer or balm. Not only will it keep their pads hydrated, but it will also make them feel like they're walking on fluffy clouds. Check out a list of pet-friendly products here.

Keep it Bootylicious

This may not be for everybody, but hear us out. Treat your pet to some fabulous footwear by investing in a pair of doggie booties. Not only do they protect their paws from the hot pavement, but they also make your furry friend look like a total fashionista. Take a look at some adorable booties here!

Remember, our pets can’t tell us when their feet hurt or if it’s too hot for them to be outside. Be proactive, take care of those precious paws and keep your pets safe all summer long!
